Smart Power Over Ethernet (PoE) Lighting
POWER OVER ETHERNET – THE FUTURE OF WORKSPACE LIGHTING
Smartengine is a building intelligence and lighting control platform that is now available in selected Synergy luminaires. It is designed to power lights and sensors over IT network wiring. This enables sensors, integrated into each light fitting, to feedback information on motion detection, brightness, temperature, air quality, Bluetooth data and fixture power consumption. All data is fed back from the sensors to the smart engine in real time. This data can be shared with other systems, such as room booking and HVAC systems. If a meeting finishes earlier, with no presence detected and there are no meetings scheduled for the next 2 hours, then there is no need to have the HVAC system running in that room, for example.
HOW DOES POE SMART LIGHTING WORK?
It’s all down to smart lighting and digital sensors. The smartengine technology is a building intelligence and lighting control platform designed to power lights and sensors over an IT network infrastructure backbone. Sensors are deployed throughout a space and communicated within real-time to provide advanced knowledge of the entire built environment.
The PoE Technology replaces conventional power infrastructure and complex BUS systems. In its place, smartengine utilises network cable infrastructure to deliver power, control and communication over one set of ethernet cables. Additionally, the smartengine software provides complete control and monitoring of the deployment and operation of smartengine and light fixtures.
Simply connect your fixture to a smart sensor using a standard CAT6 ethernet cable, eliminating the need for LED drivers. The smartengine technology also features an open API and a BACnet/IP stack with which you can access and share all sensor data from your built space.
The networking of rooms and buildings via sensors makes it possible to quickly obtain a detailed understanding of how spaces are being used, all the while delivering best in class energy consumption, often measured between 0.1-0.3W/ft2.
ADVANTAGES OF POE SMART LIGHTING FOR OFFICES?
Comfortable working environments can motivate staff and make them more productive. Pleasant lighting and a good room climate can make a decisive contribution in creating an optimum working atmosphere to enable all staff to perform at their best. Intelligent applications and utilisation concepts can help enable this. Creating a productivity enhancing and inspiring environment to support employees fully. This can be achieved by connecting the office and its users, and so increasing overall flexibility functionality and efficiency – whilst also decreasing operation and environmental costs.
Flexibility
Hot Desking, Home Office, Desk Sharing and FlexOffice. New Work concepts are becoming more important every day.
Work and employees are becoming increasingly more mobile and demand flexibility. By utilising the real-time motion data from smartengine, employees can search and book free workstations and meeting rooms. This has been proven to reduce both search times and hot desking complications.
Applications such as indoor navigation, asset tracking and people-finding drive office and employee flexibility even further.
- Display of available workstations and rooms in real time
- Optimised workstation search for various new work concepts
Smart Lighting Analytics
Flexible working requires multifunctional space. Space that can be monitored using sensor technology and then optimised and/or redesigned based on the generated data.
smartengine collects live data on various parameters and is able to provide insights into space utilisation and occupancy. These insights are presented in metrics, floorplans and graphs and enable a deep-dive to deliver valuable insights. Combining occupancy data with other sources of Business Intelligence, such as HR data and business KPIs, will lead to a profound understanding of the current situation and correlations. These insights will help you plan and optimise your office, so you actually provide the space and functionality your organisation needs.
- Optimise office space and functionality using smartengine insights
- Visualise real-time occupancy using heatmaps and make sure your office is used the way it should be
POE SYSTEM DEPLOYMENT
1. smartsensor – these collect real-time data on motion, temperature, brightness, power consumption and include bi-directional Bluetooth beacons. Environmental Sensors collect humidity, air quality and pressure in real time
2. smartengine – provides low-voltage power, light control and data communication on a single platform
3. smartdirector – represents the “brain” of the technology. Here, the data is stored locally and securely, and be shared via open interfaces e.g. with the BMS or user Apps.
4. App and analysis tools and other / third party applications provide intuitive control and optimisation applications for users, building owners and operators.
THE EFFICIENCY OF POWER OVER ETHERNET LIGHTING
Several studies show that human well-being and efficiency are significantly influenced by light and room climate. Our sensor-based control of PoE lighting makes sure that every employee has optimal lighting conditions – a key element in employee productivity. You can also support the natural daily rhythm by implementing biodynamic light. Human Centric Lighting (HCL) improves employee efficiency. Sensor data is also available to other building systems, making further optimisations possible. By also implementing sensor-based HVAC, up to 34% lower operating costs can be achieved.
- Optimise building operation: Up to 34% less operational costs.
- Enhance employee efficiency: pleasant working atmosphere due to sensor-based control of lighting, heating, air conditioning and ventilation.
